He is an Oromo born in Lake Dandy district of Jibat and Mecha in Shoa, central Ethiopia, and played a leading role in several battles. He was an important figure in the Ethiopian Empire often sited for his great skills as military commander and judiciary. A bridge in Oromia district and a street in Addis Ababa (Habte Gyorgis dildiy) are named after him. He is renowned for his wisdom and his military skills. He has participated in many battles including Adwa.Habte Giorgis' history and achievements are missing from official Ethiopian historiography and this is a common practice for non Abyssinian notables.".
