He recorded his first solo album in 1971.Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Caliman was active leading a quartet and quintet in the Seattle area, served on the music faculty at Cornish College of the Arts, and taught private lessons to area musicians. He died of liver cancer in September 2010, at the age of 78.".
