- Hillcrest_Bar_bombing abstract "The Hillcrest Bar bombing also known as the "Saint Patrick's Day bombing" was a car bomb attack on 17 March 1976 in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It was carried out by the illegal loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force's (UVF) Mid-Ulster Brigade which at the time was led by the notorious Robin Jackson, an alleged RUC Special Branch agent who has been linked to over 50 killings and paramilitary attacks including the Dublin and Monaghan bombings in May 1974 and the Miami Showband massacre in July 1975.The bomb was placed in a green Austin Healey car parked outside the Hillcrest Bar in Donaghmore Road and exploded at 8.20 pm while customers inside the pub were celebrating Saint Patrick's Day. Four people were killed in the blast, including two 13-year old boys playing in the street close to the vehicle. A total of 12 people were injured. The four victims were Catholics. Three had died instantly, however one of the boys Patrick Barnard died the following day of the injuries he had sustained in the blast. In December 1980 UVF member Garnet James Busby confessed to having been one of the bombers. This attack was one of many linked to the Glenanne gang, a loose association of loyalist paramilitaries and rogue members of the Northern Ireland security forces that operated out of a farm in Glenanne, County Armagh and carried out a series of violent attacks against the Catholic nationalist and republican community in the County Armagh and East Tyrone areas during the 1970s.".
