- Humberton abstract "Humberton is a hamlet and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. Harrogate is an historic spa town in North Yorkshire. It was once a small village in the 1500s when a spring at Tewitt Well was discovered to be rich in minerals. It became a popular destination for the rich and famous of Yorkshire – which continues to this day. It is situated 2 miles (3.2 km) east from Boroughbridge and on the north side of the River Ure. The hamlet lies about one mile to the west of the Swale, and comprises 2,320 acres (9 km2) of land.The Ure, which separates the township from Aldborough, was crossed by a wooden bridge, at Milby, before the Conquest, and some remains of the bridge are still visible when the water is low. The name Humberton means 'Hund's fortified farm/settlement' or 'Hundr's fortified farm/settlement'. Humberton had a population of 111 according to the 2011 census – 68 male and 43 female – within 45 dwellingsIn 1870–72 Humberton was described as: "Humberton, township, Kirkby on the Moor par., North-Riding Yorkshire, and Aldborough par., E. div.
