- Hungarian_Turanism abstract "Hungarian Turanism (Hungarian: Turánizmus or Turanizmus) is a pseudo-scientific, nationalist political ideology, which emphasizes the alleged origins of the Hungarian people in Central Asia and Inner Asia ("Turan") and the affinity and shared origin of the Hungarians with Asian peoples such as the Turkic peoples, Huns etc. The extremist turanists have even emphasized “ties of ancestry” with the Tibetan, Japanese, and Korean peoples or the ancient Sumerians and Parthian people. The modern Hungarian turanist movements and societies were filled with esotericism and dense network of conspiracy theories. The idea of the necessity for "Turanian brotherhood and collaboration" was borrowed from the "Slavic brotherhood and collaboration" idea of Panslavism.Hungarian Turanism is based on a medieval tradition that places the Hungarians' ancestral homeland in Asia. This tradition was a driving force in the development of Hungarian social sciences, especially linguistics and Orientalism. Initially, Hungarian Turanism posed as a moderate political theory. It considered that Finno-Ugric peoples also belonged to the Turanian family. The latter extremists deny any connection with Uralic speakers.Political Turanism was born in the 19th century, in response to the growing influence of Pan-Germanism and Pan-Slavism, seen by Hungarians as very dangerous to the state and nation of Hungary, because the country had large ethnic German and Slavic populations. After the first World War political Turanism played an important role in the formation of Hungarian far right ideologies because of its racial nationalist nature. After the second World War, in the communist era of Hungary, Turanism was portrayed and vilified as an exclusively fascist ideology. The Hungarians were (semi-)nomads before the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin and their culture was similar to other steppe peoples. The academics presume a Uralic homeland of ancient Hungarian conquerors (mainly on linguistic grounds and recent genetic researches of ancient fossils). The proto-Hungarian tribes were situated in the Eurasiatic forest steppe zone, therefore, the ancient relations of the Hungarians and their interactions with other equestrian nomadic peoples are still debated issues. The term "Turanian" quickly became an archaism.".
