His poor form continued at club level which saw him also dropped from the Glasgow starting XV for the promising youngster Chris Fusaro for most of the 2011–12 season.Barclay was controversially picked ahead of Fusaro for Scotland's Summer Tour to Australia and the Pacific Islands by then Head Coach Andy Robinson.
