- Joseph_Berry abstract "Joseph Berry (29 November 1829 – 20 April 1894) was an English first-class cricketer, who played three matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club over a span of thirteen years from 1861 to 1874. He was a right-handed batsman who scored 82 runs at 10.25 with a best of 30. He took 2 catches but his right arm medium pace was not called upon.Berry was born in Dalton, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, and made his debut for Yorkshire in 1861, when they were still a pre county club, playing against Surrey in both the home and away fixtures that year with scant success. He appeared against Kent in 1864, and Cambridgeshire in 1865, with his final appearance coming nine years later for Yorkshire against an All England XI at Huddersfield in July 1874. It was in this final match that he made his highest score of 30, batting at number 9, as Yorkshire ran out winners by an innings and 11 runs.He also umpired at least four matches in first-class cricket, both Roses Matches in 1877, and two games Yorkshire played against the touring Australians in 1878 and 1880.Berry died, aged 64 in Fartown, Huddersfiled in April 1894.".
