- Junc_Gallery abstract "Junc Gallery was an early exhibitor of contemporary art in the illustration genre. As such it was a pioneer giving a platform to a new culture of artists including Paper Rad, Eddie Martinez, Futurefarmers, Justin Wood, Brendan Monroe and many other artist who have gone on to notable careers exhibiting at major galleries and museums including the Los Angeles Museum of Art and the Venice Biennial.Junc Gallery existed from 2004-2009 in the neighborhood of Los Angeles known as Silver Lake exhibiting an emerging culture of artists heavily influenced by illustrations, comics, zines and related cultural aesthetics characterized in at least one gallery press release as "Post Illustration". The rapid emergence of this illustration vernacular (as opposed to illustration) into contemporary art galleries during this period has also been called "Post Illustration" by Art Critic Shana Nys Dambrot in a review of the artist Brendan Monroe, an early exhibitor at Junc. What the exact meaning of this term is and whether or not this label is entirely accurate is a matter of opinion. It is however an indication of the era in which recognized galleries are becoming more receptive to illustration derived solutions and a description of the artwork exhibited at Junc.".
