- Junius_Licinius_Balbus abstract "Junius Licinius Balbus (ca. 180 - aft. 238) was a Roman Senator who served as a Suffect Consul. He was the son of Junius Licinius Balbus, a man of consular rank and his wife, Servilia the daughter of the Roman nobles Ceionia Plautia and Quintus Servilius Pudens. His name is given by Augustan History, however modern historians dismiss his name as false. He married Antonia Gordiana, daughter of Gordian I and sister of Gordian II, and had a son Gordian III. Although Antonia Gordiana married an unnamed Roman Senator, modern historians dismiss him as the husband of Antonia Gordiana and father of Gordian III. The Historia Augusta says Constantius I was the son of Eutropius, a noble from northern Dardania in modern Serbia, and Claudia, a niece of the emperors Claudius II and Quintillus. Historians, however, suspect this maternal connection to be a genealogical fabrication created by his grandson Constantine II, thus connecting his family to two rather highly regarded predecessors, such as the Gordians (and through them the Antonines), the Severians and the Gens Julia, and to these the Theodosians. It seems that Junius Licinius Balbus' descendancy through a daughter is totally forged.== Nerva–Antonine family tree == (1) = 1st spouse (2) = 2nd spouse (not shown) (3) = 3rd spouse Darker purple indicates Emperor of the Nerva-Antonine dynasty; lighter purple indicates designated imperial heir of said dynasty who never reigned dashed lines indicate adoption; dotted lines indicate love affairs/unmarried relationships small caps = posthumously deified (Augusti, Augustae, or other)".
