I would like to say that in order to preserve this victory, we must work and give all our support to the policies and programme which are being implemented by the Government"- Tun Abdul Razak, Mac 1975"We the Ceylonese have neither political power nor economic strength hence the need for an organisation like the Malaysian Ceylonese Congress so that our voice could be heard in and outside Parliament, which means we have to strengthen ourselves. How many are really interested in the general welfare of the community and think that it was mainly due to lack of foresight and planning. Some people linger after power. Yes power is sought but the burden that comes with power is not welcome except by a few"- Tan Sri Dato' Dr. C . Sinnadurai, Mac 1979"The Ceylonese community, though numerically small, has played a significant role, It is an educated community of professionals""The Malaysian Ceylonese Congress is not a big political force but gives support to the party in power and its sympathies are with the Barisan National. I hope this support will continue in the future."Tun Datuk Seri Mahathir Mohammad, Dec 1981"The success of an organisation is to be measured not by the strength of its members but by the degree of benefit derived from it by the members"Tan Sri Dato' Seri V. Jeyaratnam, Mac 1986"The Ceylonese community in Malaysia feel themselves to be 'forgotten race' and chafe at having lost their political place in the sun, Today, they want to be counted"Dato' Dr. NKS Tharmaseelan, March 2005MCC BIENNIAL CENTRAL GENERAL ASSEMBLYMCC holds its 18th Biennial Central General Assembly on 31 March 2013 at the Kalamandapam hall in Jalan Scott Kuala Lumpur. In an email message to members the President wrote:-My dear countrymen and colleagues in the MCCIt is with great sadness that I have accepted the decision of Mr Vijayakone not to continue to serve as the Secretary Generalof the MCC due to work commitments. He was an excellent SG who took the MCC to such great heights. He sacrificed many hours planning and executing innovative ideasto streamline the administration of the MCC.He embarked on the mammoth task of creating an MCC database which he accomplished almost single-handedly He made the CEC and CWC meetings interesting with power point presentations of events . He used his vast and experienced ITknowledge to put MCC on the world electronic map, (see Wikipedia on Malaysian Ceylonese Congress, Facebook, MCC@gmail etc. ) . He wassavy with the media and MCC was able to get publicity on all fronts. As a result we recruited many MCC members and raised awareness of the MCC. He sought acknowledgement of the Election Commission to inviteMCC to all EC meetings and briefings .He was responsible to develop close relationship with the ROS and was able to get approval of new branches within 2 weeks .I can sing many more laurels to the very many things he introduced to MCC.Prayer for peace, Ponggal, Dinner with the Minister and so on.He was meticulous, adhered to the constitution strictly and ran the MCC as a professional political organisation. MCC now has a direct line of communication via telephone, fax, email etc. He made life for me as President of MCC a breeze as he was always there when I needed him. He was an awesome friend. I will miss his presence in the vibrant, informative, fruitful CWC and CEC meetings.Mr Vijayakone being a passionate and loyal MCC member has promised to continue assisting the MCC in any way he can .On behalf of all of you in the MCC I salute himNKS TharmaseelanDATO' DR.N.K.S.THARMASEELANPRESIDENTMALAYSIAN CEYLONESE CONGRESSMCC OUTGOING SECRETARY GENERALS MESSAGE POSTED ON FACEBOOK - MARCH 2013Malaysian Ceylonese Congress has come a long way and Members have acknowledged that after 50 years MCC has come out of its cocoon and have credited the progress to the leadership of Dato Dr NKS Tharmaseelan who currently has been nominated unanimously to retain his position at the 18th BCGA which will be held on 31 March 2013 at Kalamandapam.I enjoyed my 4 year stint as Secretary General of this organisation which is the pride and hope of every Malaysian of Ceylonese origin. (Somehow the word ‘Ceylonese’ seems to be an apt description of our Society and Community as our forefathers who formed this organisation left the homeland when it was named ‘Ceylon’ and only later the name was changed). My Branch, MCC Muar, welcomes the Presidents announcement at the 4th CEC that he will enforce Article 14 Section 1 which reads ‘Any member of any Council or Committee absenting himself from three meetings consecutively without satisfactory explanation therefore, shall be deemed to have ceased to be a member of the council or committee and a successor may be co-opted by the Council or Committee to serve the remaining term of office’It is my considered opinion that those of us who cannot fulfill the stringent demands of the office ought to make way for younger people who are willing and able to serve. It is disconcerting that many members have expressed their reason for apathy as the syndrome of “Groupism” and the sprinklings of armchair critics, perceived to be prevailing in the Society. If indeed that is true, it is vital that the leadership takes the ‘bull by the horns’, so to speak, and allow the winds of change to help MCC to soar to greater heights. We have all witnessed the recent carnage in our homeland which ruthlessly and nonchalantly wiped out the lives of thousands of our kin and kindred. As our Malay brothers and sisters would say, we must take “iktibar” from that unfortunate episode. Our response to that genocide ought not to be limited to just seeking retribution and justice for the dead alone but also to set the stage so that the future generations of our community will be able to flourish with pride and honour- unfaced by the evil murderous designs which we as a diaspora, seek to punish at international forums. Our Prime Minister has acknowledged publicly that as individuals many in our community have excelled in our chosen callings and professions but as a Community we must also advance like other communities in Malaysia.I take this opportunity to thank all my countrymen for the support and assistance that you have given me and bid you farewell. As the outgoing office bearer I can honestly say that I have done my best without fear or favour and I shall now retire. I am grateful to the President who at various meetings pointed out my contributions over the last 4 years which I do not choose to regurgitate.Thank you - Vijayakone ThanigasalamSELECTED MEDIA REPORTSStar Metro Friday 13 September 2009 - Prayer for PeaceMembers of the Malaysian Ceylonese Congress gathered at the Sri Sithi Vinayaga Temple in Jalan Selangor, Petaling Jaya to pray for peace in Sri Lanka.
