- Mayo_Clinic_Hospital,_Saint_Mary’s_Campus abstract "Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester, Saint Marys Campus is one of two hospitals in Rochester, Minnesota operated by the Mayo Clinic. Together with the Rochester Methodist Campus they form Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester.Originally, the name was spelled Saint Mary's Hospital, as can be seen in stone above the old front entrance, but in recent years the apostrophe is usually omitted.St Marys has a 61-bed emergency department but no obstetrics department, while Rochester Methodist lacks an emergency department but contains an obstetrics department. It was founded in 1889 by a local Franciscan religious community, the Sisters of Saint Francis of Rochester, Minnesota, led by Mother Mother Alfred Moes, with encouragement from Dr. William Worrall Mayo.Today it is a large hospital campus with 1,265 licensed beds and 55 operating rooms, making it the largest privately operated hospital in the nation. In 2008, there were 43,000 admissions as well as 28,000 surgical cases. The buildings comprising it are named after Franciscan sisters who were the hospital's administrators: Mother Alfred, Joseph, Domitilla, Mary Brigh, and Generose, as well as the Francis Building, so named to commemorate the service of the Franciscan sisters over the years. The hospital includes the 85-bed Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital, offering world-class multidisciplinary pediatric and adolescent care. The Mayo Clinic Psychiatry and Psychology Treatment Center in the Generose Building is also part of the campus. St. Marys Hospital campus includes the nation's largest intensive care unit which includes 200 ICU beds and 200 "step-down" ICU beds.Currently several expansion and enhancements projects are underway, including a new Emergency Department and a Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The hospital is currently accredited as a Level I trauma center and stroke center. It is the seat of the Southern Minnesota Regional Trauma Advisory Committee, serving a population of almost 900,000.Saint Marys Hospital Emergency Department provides care for approximately 80,000 patients per year, serving the local population (constituting about 85% of patients) and being a referral for south and center for Minnesota, northern Iowa and west Wisconsin through Mayo One medical helicopter service. The Emergency Department includes a state of the art electronic all comprehensive patient flow system (known as "Yes"), 4 large trauma bays, 8-12 ICU capable rooms, dedicated pediatric area, high acuity beds, 10 bed observation unit, fast-track, slit lamp room, psychiatry specific beds, acclimatized ambulance entrance and garage. The department is currently under a complete renovation, leading to an expanded 76+ universal rooms and five resuscitation bays to be open during the first half of 2015.In January 2014, Saint Marys and Rochester Methodist will consolidated under the name Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester. However, Mayo will continue to operate both campuses under their current names, despite being a single, licensed facility.".
