In 2007, in collaboration with jazz pianist Sean Foran, released her debut EP Nightlight. The EP won the 2008 Australian Jazz Bell Award for 'Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album'. She released her second EP, Bennetts Lane, with pianist Paul Grabowsky in 2007. Her musical style moved away from jazz when she began backing a blues and roots musician, Old Man River, as the keyboardist and backing vocalist. In late 2007 she relaunched her musical career under the mononymous stage name Washington, independently releasing her third EP, Clementine in January 2008. The EP saw a departure from her jazz roots into a more Indie rock-inspired sound. In November 2008, she and her backing band were announced as Triple J's Unearthed winners and performed at the Melbourne Big Day Out. Washington was signed to Mercury Records sometime in 2008-09, with whom she released her fourth EP, How to Tame Lions in September 2009, followed by a re-release of Clementine in November 2009.In May 2010, she released her fifth EP, Rich Kids, followed by her debut album. I Believe You Liar in July 2010. The album was a commercial and critical success, peaking at #3 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and was accredited Platinum for shipments of over 75,000 units. In November 2010, she released the live EP iTunes Live: ARIA Awards Concert Series '10 exclusively as a digital download through iTunes. She released her seventh EP, Insomnia in October 2011 through Mercury Records, which charted at #24 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Washington announced in November 2013 that her second studio album would be titled There There, which is currently due for release in 2014.".
