Ruth Carter Stevenson opened the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in January 1961, following her father's wishes.Stevenson was also the first woman to be appointed to the board of directors of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.Ruth Carter Stevenson died at her home on Fort Worth, Texas, on January 6, 2013, at the age of 89.".
