In the 1980s the name changed from Swellendam-Heidelberg Koöperasie to the Sentraal-Suid Koöperasie(SSK). The head office of SSK is situated in Swellendam, the third oldest town of the Republic of South Africa.The then Prime Minister of South Africa, General J. B. M. Hertzog saw the farmer’s dilemma in those times of depression around the globe. Hertzog told his Minister of Agriculture, General Jan Kemp to step up. The farmers needed help and through the system of co-operatives they could control their own products. As a result of this policy the Sasko- Suid Afrikaanse Sentrale Kooperatiewe Graanmaatskappy (English: South African Central Cooperative Grain Company) was founded in 1930thumb|right|On July 15, 1931 the first founders meeting was held to start the co-operative then known as the Swellendamse Boere Kooperatiewe Vereniging (Swellendam’s Farmers Co-operative Society) attendees were:P.G.
