- Sheila_Mills abstract "Sheila Mills was a Labor member of the Parliament of Western Australia. Mills was a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council for South Metropolitan. She was elected to the Thirty-seventh Parliament on 26 February 2005 for a term beginning 22 May 2005. Her term ended in 2008.1976 - 1989 Sheila met her future second husband, John Checkley Mills, in 1976 at Cannington. John was the son of Edwin Checkley Mills, a well known Western Australian Meat Auctioneer and Company Director, and Mary Williamson Mills, of Scottish ancestry. The Mills family are an old Australian family, of liberal conservative political orientation. John worked as an auctioneer at his father's meat marketing business, Western Nelson's, which was located in O'Connor, east of Fremantle. Sheila meanwhile worked at a credit union. It was during these first years of their relationship that Sheila was convicted of theft, after stealing from the credit union at where she worked. Sheila had been taking money over the course of about six months before the police arrested her in December 1978. John kept it a secret from his mother and father. Nevertheless, Sheila and John were later married at 23 Ednah Street, Como, Western Australia, the home of John's parents, on 3 March 1979. For the first two years of their marriage the couple lived at Sheila's flat in South Perth and then at Leeming in the southern suburbs of Perth. Soon after the birth of their first child, James Rhys Mills, on 23 May 1980, the family moved into a new house in the suburb of Yangebup, which is located about 20 kilometres south of the Perth CBD. James was named after Sheila's father, James (Jim) K. Foulkes (who had died earlier that year and Rhys Williams, an ancestor from her mother's family. On 18 September 1981 Sheila gave birth to their second son, Simon John Mills. On 11 January 1984 she enrolled as an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Arts in Social and Political Theory course at Murdoch University. Sheila also meanwhile found clerical work at Parliament House. It was while studying at Murdoch that Sheila met her future third husband who was also a Murdoch student, David Douglas Klemm. David was sixteen years her junior. It was during this time that Sheila began to have Marxist political views. In August 1986 Sheila graduated from Murdoch with a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Political Theory, aged 37. In September 1988 Sheila was lucky to survive a serious car accident where she was almost killed by a drunk driver. The car she was driving was a complete write-off. Towards the end of 1988 Sheila went into business as a one-third partner and director of a consultancy firm called 'Construction Development Review', located in Mouat Street Fremantle. Soon afterwards Sheila separated from John. In January 1989 she went to live with her two sons at a house on the other side of Yangebup. In mid-1989 Sheila and John were divorced and she was granted custody of the children by the family court.".
