Before he graduated he took a break from school and joined the Navy for more than 4 years, winning multiple awards for his service. After his time in the military he started working at Campbell-Ewald and eventually became the CEO. He also became a board member at his alma mater. For all of his athletic, military, and business achievements the Wayne State Football field was named in honor of him on October 11, 2003.".
