- Woophy abstract "Woophy (World of photography) was a photo sharing website and an online community where members could put their photos on a world map. Founded in 2005 by Joris van Hoytema, Hoyte van Hoytema and Marcel Geenevasen, the site had up to 43,300 members and contained around a million photos from over 44,900 cities, towns and villages of the world. Most of the uploaded pictures were from the surroundings, buildings, nature and the problems in the world. Woophy also had an active forum where members discussed their photos in a critical way. Woophy had a temporary financial deal with Eurobookings which enabled it to survive through advertisements. However, in 2012, the majority of Woophy's shares was acquired by Hot Shot Media, itself a property of Mooter Media Ltd, an Australian public company. Far away from the initial Woophy's spirit, these new owners intended to turn Woophy into a kind of social gambling website. The core was a game called “Shutterbug Millionaire”, where people would be invited to pay for submitting their own pictures. Following assessment and classification by a jury that was claimed to include - among others - Sir Richard Branson and Erin Heatherton, the winner would have been awarded a $1 million prize. However, this project did not attract any investor, and therefore was dropped off. Since the major shareholders did not put any further money in Woophy, the website entered a long agony and, by December 24, 2013, was shut down.".
