- Aachen_Open_Air_Pop_Festival abstract "Aachen Open Air Pop Festival was held on July 10–12, 1970, in Aachen (West-Germany), at the Reitstadion Soers, an equestrian stadium (actually Europe's biggest) near the Dutch border. The "Soersfestival", as it is most commonly called, was the initiative of three local students. As there were many hippies and freaks to be expected from all over Europe, the organisers had to tackle considerable difficulties and hostilities to go ahead with the idea. Some 40.000 visitors attended. The Festival was well-organised, no real problems occurred and the weather was fine. Coca-Cola was one of the investors, along with some local entrepreneurs. Tickets cost DM 15, - a day, or DM 40, - for three days. The programme was quite an international mix of headlining bands from the UK, USA, Europe (e.g., from the Netherlands and Germany), and local bands (like Truss). The German bands played before 2:00 p.m.; the international acts then followed. From several of the acts, bootlegs have been circulating since (e.g., Pink Floyd, Golden Earring, Deep Purple).".
