Together with Kenkichi Iwasawa he received the Cole Prize in 1962.Dwork received his Ph.D. at Columbia University in 1954 under direction of Emil Artin; Nick Katz was one of his students. He is the father of historian Deborah Dwork. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1964, and his daughter, historian Deborah Dwork, received one in 1993. They are one of only three father-daughter set to ever have done so. Another daughter, computer scientist Cynthia Dwork, received the Dijkstra Prize.".
