- Kaurna_language abstract "Kaurna (/ˈɡɑːnə/ or /ˈɡaʊnə/) is today a newly formed and linguistically spelt language based on scientific spelling system. Kaurna word lists were recorded by two German lutheran missionaries in the late 1830's during the process of colonization. Today the people of the Adelaide plains are known as kaurna but the kaurna are a made up of a nation of tribal clan groups each with their own parnkarra district of land along with their own dialectal form of language. These forms of language were historically spoken in the area of the Adelaide Plains bounded by Crystal Brook and Clare in the north and Cape Jervis in the south and just over the mount lofty ranges. It ceased to be spoken on an every-day basis in the 19th century, but, in a process that began in the 1990s, is being reclaimed and re-introduced. Kaurna Warra Pintyandi is one group developing and promoting a linguistic institutionalized version of the language making new words such as muka (head) kando (lightening) mukakando for computer and other words for things such as washing machine, telephone, motor car, whiskey, vodka etc. KWP are based at the University of Adelaide, it is a committee comprising a small group of Kaurna people as well as teachers, linguists and other researchers.".
