- catalog description "Tufts (Harvard, A.M. 1749) studied medicine with his older brother Simon in Medford, Mass., and later established his own practice in Weymouth, Mass. In 1780 he was one of the incorporators of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the convention to adopt the Constitution of the U.S. Tufts was also an incorporator of the Massachusetts Medical Society in 1781, and served as its fourth president (1787-1795). He introduced a popular treatment for diphtheria early in his career which gained him medical and social respect.".
