The collection also contains Harvard Medical School (HMS) teaching materials and committee files; writings files and reference material; and some personal correspondence and related papers. MGH records include correspondence recording organization and administration of the Department of Anesthesia; committee meeting minutes; Beecher's correspondence with MGH directors, HMS deans, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and other institutions; and correspondence with Soviet scientists and colleagues at various universities concerning research on anesthesia and drugs; as well as some manuscripts of his papers. Additional MGH records include symposium papers, notes and Beecher's address from the 1946 Ether Centennial. Beecher's professional papers including National Research Council correspondence and minutes from the Subcommittee on Shock; material from anesthesiologists' societies; correspondence and report from wartime consulting work in the Mediterranean region and in Korea in 1950; and Lowell Institute lecture notes and correspondence are also included in the collection. HMS files contain copies of lectures, and correspondence about the Dorr professorship and Beecher's participation on the Committee on Human Studies and Committee on Pharmacotherapy. Beecher's writings files include correspondence and manuscripts of articles and books on such topics as physiology and control of pain, psychotomimetic drugs, effects of drugs, and medical ethics and human experimentation. Additional papers include reference files, such as correspondence and U.S. technical reports on human experimentation by Nazis, clippings, glass lantern slides and other teaching material, and reprints and books.".
