- catalog description "George Van Siclen Smith (1900-1984) (Harvard, M.D. 1926) became W. H. Baker Professor of Gynecology at Harvard in 1942 (Emeritus, 1967) and was staff pathologist, director of research, chief of surgery, and chief of staff of the Free Hospital for Women, 1926- . He also directed the Fearing Research Laboratory at the Free Hospital, 1928-1946. Olive Watkins Smith (1901-1983) (Harvard, Ph.D 1928) taught biological chemistry in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Free Hospital for Women from 1946 to 1967 and was director at the Fearing Research Laboratory, 1946-1960 and again 1970-1980. The Smiths were known for their team research and pioneering discoveries on diseases of the female reproductive organs and endocrinology of the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.".
