- catalog abstract "The New Bible Dictionary is the latest, and thus far the major, product of the Tyndale Fellowship for Biblical Research, which was founded in 1945 in close association with the Inter-Varsity Fellowship to stimulate evangelical biblical scholarship in Great Britain and elsewhere. The contributors to this Dictionary have not been drawn exclusively from the ranks of the Tyndale Fellowship; we are deeply indebted to the generous co-operation of colleagues in America, Europe, the Commonwealth, and other lands. This is not in any sense a revision of any older work. Each of its 2,300 articles has been especially written for this volume. The intention has been to take full advantage of the considerable advances made in biblical studies in recent years, particularly in the realm of archaeology. The aim of editors and contributors alike has been to produce a volume, written in a spirit of loyalty to Holy Scripture, which would contribute substantially to the understanding of God's Word to men. No attempt has been made, however, to impose a rigid uniformity upon the whole work, or to exclude the occasional expression of different viewpoints. - Preface.".
