In 1912, the family moved to Whittier, California, where Fisher's father edited the Whittier News. Fisher married Alfred Young Fisher in 1929; they spent three years in France while he completed his doctorate and she studied at the University of Dijon and in Strasbourg. The Fishers returned to California in 1932. Following Fisher's divorce in 1932, she married Dillwyn Parrish, and lived in Switzerland until 1941. Her husband died after three years of marriage. Her third marriage, to Donald Friede, ended in divorce in 1951; they had two daughters.".
