- catalog abstract "After an internship at Bellevue Hospital (1922), Moore spent a year with the obstetrical service of the New York State Department of Maternity, Infancy and Child Hygiene. She was at New Haven Hospital while teaching at Yale Medical School (1928-1929) and at Cornell Medical School (1929-1931). In 1934 she moved to Cambridge, Mass., where she maintained a private practice for thirty years and participated in organizations concerned with the care of children. Moore worked in the outpatient clinics of Children's Hospital (1934-1964), and taught at Harvard Medical School (1937-1968). She married Arthur Burkhard, scholar and professor of German arts and literature, in 1941; he died in 1983. Collection consists of correspondence, diaries, account books, research notes, and photographs of Moore and her family. Family papers form the bulk of the collection. Correspondence spans three generations and includes that of Moore's mother with her parents (1880-1917), and that of Moore and her family (1900-1946). It documents the important role the parents (particularly the fathers) played in the lives of their daughters and the parents' concern for the daughters' development. Many letters contain descriptions of travels abroad. There are diaries of Moore's mother (1894-1959) and Dorothea Moore (1904-1934); most entries are brief. Mother and daughter also kept detailed account books. Concert programs (1888-1942) chronicle Eliza Moore's appearances as a pianist. Photographs are mainly of family and friends, with some taken by Moore on her trip to the Soviet Union in 1934. Professional papers consist of correspondence documenting Moore's medical appointments, records, and research notes. Four folders contain correspondence, articles, clippings, etc., of Fe del Mundo, a student of Moore who founded the Children's Medical Center (devoted to child and maternal health in the Philippines.".
