Murdock, and Louise Imogen Guiney in 1891 to give advice to women traveling abroad. Its first president was Julia Ward Howe. Known for its publications listing accommodations for women travelers, it began publishing A Summer in England in 1891 and the Pilgrim Scrip magazine and Lodging List in 1892. Other publications included the American Lodging List, Lodging List of the Americas, and the Foreign Lodging List. At times during its existence the Women's Rest Tour Association used office space at the Women's Education and Industrial Union in Boston, which helped to support its work.
