- catalog description "Feminist and professor, Andrée Collard was born in Brussels and grew up in a small village in Belgium. In 1950 she came to the United States on a Marshall Plan scholarship. She moved to Mexico City, where she received an M.A. in Romance literature from Universidad Nacional de México (1955) and later worked as an interpreter and teacher. Collard earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University (1964), and taught courses in Spanish and comparative literature at Brandeis University from 1962 until her death in 1986. As interest in women's studies began to grow, she advocated establishment of a women's studies program and developed a number of new courses. A founder of the Boston chapter of the National Organization for Women, Collard chaired the faculty committee to investigate the status of women at Brandeis. She was the author of Nueva Poesía: Conceptismo, Culturanismo en la Crítica Espanola (1967) and Rape of the Wild (1988).".
