It consisted of 104 ambulances and 25 auxiliary motor vehicles divided into five sections. All together, 270 Americans, including the author Ernest Hemingway, served as drivers and officers. The 35 undergraduate and two graduate students accepted by the ARC from Harvard University were assigned to Section One based in the Monte Grappa region, with headquarters in Bassano, and were unofficially called the Harvard Ambulance Corps.".
