- catalog description "Dorothy Anna (Wentling) Yokum was born in Ono, Pa., the eldest of eight children of Stanley and Barbara (Harbaugh) Wentling. Her father worked at the Hershey chocolate factory and had several small business ventures in Palmyra, Pa. She graduated from Palmyra High School (1935) and Lebanon Valley College (1940), where she majored in science and where she met George E. Yokum, a fellow student. She did graduate work in zoology at Mount Holyoke College while George taught music at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey. They were married in July 1941 and lived in Hummelstown, Pa. George continued to teach at the school until he went into the army, where he was eventually promoted to sergeant. Their first child, Barbara, was born while he was stationed abroad. In 1948 the family moved to New York, where George earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University. They later lived in Plattsburgh, N.Y., where George was a professor at the State University of New York. They were killed in an automobile accident in 1963.".
