So far, many work has been done in building tools and paradigms to best support the user in creating, maintaining, and browsing the terminological knowledge of an ontology. On the other hand, only little work has been spent in supporting the user to explore the manifold interconnected assertional knowledge consisting of individuals and relationships between them. Analysing, visualizing, and understanding this network of individuals becomes a more and more demanding issue since it is widely assumed that in real-world settings the assertional fraction of the ontology will surpass the terminological part by orders of magnitude and interconnectivity. In this paper, we present a new efficient visualization and editing approach which allows to investigate relationships within large volumes of interlinked individuals in order to grasp the structure of the assertional knowledge more easily. Our instance browsing and editing component has been implemented as a plugin for the ontology authoring framework OntoTrack.".
