While these studies mainly focused on the analysis of the performance of visible light positioning, these works did not consider the illumination aspects of such combined systems. In this paper, we analyse the illumination aspects based on the main illumination characteristics defined in the European Standard EN 12464-1, i.e., the horizontal illuminance and the uniformity of illuminance. As in the standard, we distinguish between a task area, where visual activities are performed that demand higher illuminance and uniformity, and a surrounding area that borders the former. In our analysis, we derive simple rules of thumb to determine the number and placement of LEDs to satisfy the constraints on the horizontal illuminance and uniformity for a given area.".
