The plane wave time domain algorithm is the counterpart to the frequency domain fast multipole methods and makes it possible to analyze the transient scattering from large and complex objects. By deriving the length of the relevant intervals to reconstruct the field in a given time interval, the resection strategy is described in detail. Finally, the validity of this resection approach is demonstrated by showing that the correct fields can be reconstructed exactly up to a controllable error.".
