According to construal level theory, objects perceived as more distant (nearer) evoke more abstract (more concrete) processing. The current research, involving four experimental studies, affirms that cold (warm) colors are perceived as more distant (nearby) (study 1) and induce, respectively, abstract processing and concrete processing (studies 2, 3, 4). It also provides evidence for the effects of color temperature on downstream judgments, such that cold colors—but not warm ones—facilitate the halo effect, which influences purchase intentions (study 4). Therefore, this research contributes to literature on construal level theory, color psychology, and the halo effect.".
