- 01HND24MNV2D3WGHW7FG1QGT2Q abstract "In this paper, we present the theoretical model of the Sahelian factor in the music and dance of Northern Ghana. The Sahelian factor is a research model that functions as an imaginary filter to approach our field materials and contains key components from our audiovisual field data. The Sahelian factor disconnects music-making from the phenomenon of local languages and ethnicities in this part of Africa. The model shows that the prevailing ethnolinguistic anthropological classification of languages in Northern Ghana cannot be fully applied to the classification and division of music and dance cultures in the area. The traditional model of dividing musical cultures based on tribal groups and local ethnicities is no longer sufficient to fully capture the current dynamics of music-making in the Sudanic Savannah Belt of Northern Ghana.".
