- 01J0TAQ7VS7Q0RDVEQTRP0YMZR abstract "Energy levels at the surface of a one-dimensional semi-infinite crystal are calculated by means of the scattering matrix method of Saxon and Hutner in the case that the potential of the surface is asymmetric. By proceeding in this way we obtained the well known formula of Tamm. We also did analogous calculations for a linear crystal with a surface contaminated by an impurity atom. The same number of possible solutions is found as in the previous case e.i. two, one ore none, but the position of the levels is different. An explanation for the n-type or p-type surface conductivity of an intrinsic semi-conductor crystal is proposed.".
