- 01JACZEDN881Y5GKRYDJGAP7B0 abstract "The electron-excited Auger spectra of vacuum cleaved V2O5(010) and of V(100), cleaned by argon ion bombardment and ohmic heating, are compared and discussed. The interpretation of the V2O5 spectra is based on an energy level scheme using ESCA data to determine the chemical shifts. The results are compared to those obtained with the atomic energy level scheme. Carbon has not been detected on freshly cleaved V2O5 but a strong carbon build-up under the influence of the electron bombardment has been observed. The implications of this observation on the role carbon plays in the LEED beam induced V2O5→ V12O26 transition are discussed. On vanadium a strong sulfur peak has been observed. The structure V(100)-c(2 × 2) is attributed to the presence of this impurity. A work function of 4.5 ±0.2eV has been obtained for clean but electron bombarded V205(010).".
