- aggregation abstract "Belgium has a unique system of coupling of wages to the average consumer prizes. It is widely believed that this system causes inflation, and imposes a burden on corporations. But in fact, adaptation of wages follows much later the rise of prizes; the latter also reflects higher profits, although not for all enterprises to the same degree. Moreover, the so-called health prize index excludes gasoil, gas, tobacco and alcohol; while it includes luxury products. As a consequence the coupling system cannot fully restore the loss of purchasing power, in particular for the lower income classes. It is proposed that in all 27 EU countries a coupling becomes mandatory, in order to sustain purchasing power and consumption. Corporations could create a solidarity fund for enterprises that are victim of rising prizes.".
