- aggregation abstract "Since about a decade, the necessity and potential to further increase the functionality of textiles has been revealed. With the support of emerging technologies, the function of clothing can be enhanced and redefined. As a result, intense research effort is put in the development of smart textiles and more in particular in wearable textile systems. This research focuses on the communication component of such a wearable textile system and contributes to the improvement of the comfort by developing wearable and washable antennas for the 2.45 GHz ISM band made out of textile materials. Here, the metallic parts of the antenna are substituted by electroconductive textiles or screen-printed electroconductive ink. To provide a stable antenna performance, even after five washing cycles, the antenna is coated with a protective layer.".
