- aggregation title "The influence of social discourses concerning deafness on the interaction between hearing mothers and deaf infants: a comparative case study".
- aggregation abstract "This study compared the narratives of two hearing mothers with the interactions they created with their deaf infant. Three types of influencing discourses were found: the medical discourse, the cultural linguistic discourse and the spoiled dyad discourse. We showed that both mothers changed their interaction after cochlear implantation to be more monolingual Dutch in nature. This coincided with a predominance of the medical discourse in their narrative, even though both mothers did not start with the same point of view on deafness and interaction. As such, we believe it is important that professionals are aware of the message they convey to parents and how it may influence the mother-child interaction.".
