- aggregation title "Assessing the effect of the assimilation of in-situ observed soil moisture values on hydrologically modeled latent heat fluxes".
- aggregation abstract "The objective of this research is to quantify the possibility to improve SVATS-based evapotranspiration estimates through the assimilation of measured soil moisture data. The research is conducted entirely at the field scale. Soil moisture values are continuously observed in a pasture field, at six different depths ranging from five centimeter to one meter. Evapotranspiration, combined with a full set of meteorological data, is measured through the Bowen Ratio method. The observed soil moisture values are assimilated into the Common Land Model (CLM), using different methods, such as nudging and Kalman filtering, which allow different representations of observation errors in the model. The effect of the assimilation procedure on the modeled evapotranspiration is quantified, and the possibility to improve model-based evapotranspiration estimates through the assimilation of observed soil moisture values is assessed.".
