- aggregation title "Managing organisational and geographical complexity: the role of advanced producer services in the Volvo Global Value Chain".
- aggregation abstract "In recent years, global value chain (GVC) research has provided researchers with a valuable framework for understanding the global economy. By studying a wide variety of transnational production networks, the GVC approach has enabled researchers to identify key actors and processes influencing both the ways in which these networks are organised and where they are located. It has hereby become increasingly clear that one of the most important characteristics of GVCs relates to their growing organisational and geographical complexity. Consequently, companies rely increasingly on the expertise of advanced producer services (APS) firms to manage their international activities and enhance their competitiveness. However, to date the GVC-literature has paid surprisingly little attention to the actual role of these APS-firms, which may well hamper the overall explanatory power of the approach. In this paper, we attempt to address this issue by presenting a case-study of the APS-firms that help running Volvo's GVC. Taking the theoretical framework of the GVC-approach as a starting point, we trace back the inputs that emanate from these firms and explore how they influence the organisation and the geography of the Volvo GVC.".
