- aggregation title "On the interface between architecture, engineering and technology: two case studies in concrete construction in Belgium".
- aggregation abstract "This article examines two case studies on concrete construction in modern architecture in Belgium. First, the high-performance girder ‘Preflex beam’ and its highly innovative application in the office tower Zuidertoren (Brussels, 1964-7) will be considered. The second case study is the sculpture house in Angleur (near Liège, 1965-8), designed by architect Gillet, engineer Greisch and sculptor Roulin. To construct this private house, the design team exploited both the architectural and structural qualities of shotcrete to the utmost limit. The juxtaposition of the two cases allows of a reflection on how concrete, both as a building material and as a building technique, has influenced the practice of modern architecture in Belgium.".
