- Alvedansen abstract ""Alvedansen" ("The elf dance") was the Norwegian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, performed in Norwegian (in a Norwegian dialect influenced by Danish) by Christine Guldbrandsen. This was the first time since the 1998 entry and the introduction of the "free language rule" that the Norwegian entry had not been performed entirely in English, although an English recording of the song was made two years later. The song was originally intended to be released on Guldbrandsen's third album, however her record company (and Norwegian television) persuaded her to enter it in the Melodi Grand Prix instead. The song is a ballad, with Guldbrandsen taking the role of an elf and attempting to seduce her listener into joining her in a dance. At the contest itself, Guldbrandsen and her female backing singers all wore white dresses, with two also playing fiddles as accompaniment. As Norway had finished the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in the top ten, the song was pre-qualified for the final. Here, it was performed fifth, following Latvia's Vocal Group Cosmos with "I Hear Your Heart" and preceding Spain's Las Ketchup with "Un Blodymary". At the close of voting, it had received 36 points, placing 14th in a field of 24 and requiring Norway to qualify from the semifinal at the next contest. It was succeeded as Norwegian representative at the 2007 contest by Guri Schanke with "Ven a bailar conmigo".".
