- Baberton abstract "Baberton is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is south-west of the Edinburgh City Bypass and Wester Hailes and south of the Shotts Line railway line. The village of Juniper Green is situated to the south of Baberton. From Baberton there is about a 20-minute walk to the foot of the Pentland Hills. The majority of Baberton comprises a housing estate, built during the 1960s by George Wimpey. The estate was built as a dormitory suburb where the residents will mainly work in the city centre, although more widespread travel since the estate's completion means some residents work elsewhere, including Livingston and Fife.Baberton House was designed and built in 1623 by the architect Sir James Murray of Kilbaberton (d.1634), King's Master of Works. Murray built the house for himself, although it is now used as offices. When Baberton was built in the 1960s it was jokingly referred to as "Spam Valley" due to the tendency for residents to contribute large proportions of their salary to buy a house there.".
