Before the construction of the station was complete, the CO handed ownership of the station to the newly formed Serbian Railways, but operated trains to the station via trackage rights until 1913, when the Oriental Railway ceased operations outside of the Ottoman Empire. In 1974, a plan to rebuild Belgrade's railway infrastructure started and the still under construction Belgrade Central station was to replace Belgrade–Glavna.
