- Bridgemont_Community_and_Technical_College abstract "Bridgemont Community and Technical College is a community college serving the upper Kanawha Valley region of West Virginia, United States, in the city of Montgomery. It was established in 1966 as the community college of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Under a reorganization of the system passed in 2008, the state's community colleges were "divorced" from the general colleges and universities and had to adopt new names unrelated to their parent institutions. Formerly named the Community and Technical College at WVU Tech, the new name references the many bridges and mountains in the area. Bridgemont and Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College are in the process of merging. Both schools will maintain their respective campuses and course offerings. In the fall of 2014, the combined schools will officially be known as Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.In early 2013, a bill was in process to combine Bridgemont Community and Technical College with Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College (KVCTC) in South Charleston, West Virginia. The schools will combine their administrations, but will maintain both campuses and all course offerings. According to former KVCTC President Joseph Badgley, "This is a model that should have been a place a long time ago, ... This is a good time to do it to since I’m retiring and it will make the transition much easier." Bridgemont President Beverly Jo Harris said "We have worked hand in hand [with KVCTC] over the past several years trying not to duplicate programs, ... Now under one administrative structure, we’ll have a very broad range of healthcare and technology programming." Over the next academic year (2013-14), the schools will operate independently. Beginning in the fall of 2014, the combined schools will officially be known as Bridge Valley Community and Technical College (BVCTC). According to the school's website, Harris was named president of the new multi-campus college.".
