The 17th-century palace of Bir Singh Deo is one of the finest examples of Hindu domestic architecture available in North India. The town is a market center for food grains and cotton products. Handloom weaving is an important industry. Datia has several important landmarks and is famed for their seven story palace built by Raja Beer Singh Deo in 1614.
