The Lords backed down in the face of this threat, and the Great Reform Act was passed by Parliament. It received Royal Assent on 7 June 1832.Historians debate how far this extra-parliamentary pressure was decisive in securing the passage of the bill, but the period is seen as one of the times when the UK came closest to revolution.".
