A member of the Liberal Party of Canada, he ran for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons in the riding of Nepean—Carleton in the federal election of 2008. He lost the election, with 16,743 votes, 23.4% of the votes cast. The winner was the Conservative incumbent, Pierre Poilievre, with 55.8% of the vote.A retired secondary school teacher who taught science and mathematics, he was also a professor who lectured at the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. I will raise your concern to the highest level in my party.'" The same editorial was also critical of his principal opponent, Poilievre, describing him as a politician who "consistently underestimates the intelligence of the people in his riding" and "tells them what he thinks they need to know."
